Within our wide range of commercial outdoor speakers are wall-mounted speakers. These have wall brackets included, so they can be easily installed on a wall in any outdoor setting such as an outdoor seating area in pubs and restaurants. For outdoor use, wall-mounted styles are ideal, as they have a wide sound dispersion and high audio output.

All of the speakers in this category are IP rated, or weatherproof. This means that they are protected from dust and dirt damage, and also protected from rain and splashes. They cannot be fully submerged in water, but for general outdoor spaces where there is only rain or moisture, they are perfect. The weatherproof design of the speakers makes them suitable for many different uses, such as installation in swimming pools or on decks outside.

A lot of our commercial outdoor speakers can be run on 100V line. This essentially means that you can connect many of them to a single amplifier without worrying about power capability and restriction. 100V line speakers are usually daisy-chained between each other, allowing the connection of multiple speakers from one output, ideal for installations where a larger number of speakers is required.

We offer our commercial outdoor speakers in black or white designs depending on your preference. These are both neutral colours so will blend in nicely with any surface that you install them against.

What types of commercial outdoor speakers are available?

A range of commercial outdoor speakers are available in different shapes and sizes, to suit any requirement and outdoor space. The majority have a 100V line design, allowing multiple speakers to be used and connected to a single amplifier.

There are discreet garden speakers, which are perfect for areas of greenery and gardens. These speakers are designed to be inconspicuous and can be partially concealed amidst foliage, plants, and pots, ensuring they blend seamlessly. They are ideal for playing low-level background music.

Alternatively, for patio and terrace areas, there are outdoor wall-mounted speakers. These speakers are commonly found in pubs and bars and can achieve higher volume levels. They can be mounted on various surfaces and typically come with a mounting bracket. There are both traditional wall-mounted speakers and column speakers which offer a longer throw, making them suitable for larger outdoor areas.

For expansive outdoor spaces such as sports grounds, and playgrounds, there are horn speakers. These speakers deliver a powerful sound output and an extended throw, making them ideal for vast open areas. They are frequently used for public address purposes due to their capabilities.

In addition to the speaker design, the available features also vary. Most outdoor speakers have a passive design so need to connect to a suitable amplifier for power. Many mixer amplifiers provide a range of useful features, including Bluetooth connectivity and multi-zone capabilities.

To simplify the setup process, we offer a selection of complete outdoor speaker systems that include an amplifier and the cables for connection. Therefore, you have everything required to set up an outdoor audio experience.

Designed to withstand adverse weather

Our range of outdoor speakers features a weatherproof IP rating, ensuring protection against dust and moisture. This means they are suitable for long-term outdoor use, even in unfavourable weather conditions such as rain and snow.

The IP rating of individual speakers can be seen by looking at the product description. It's important to note that the IP rating does vary among different speaker models to suit different requirements. For example, some models have an IP66 rating, which means the speaker is completely dust-tight and can withstand direct high-pressure water jets. While other models have an IP45 rating, meaning the speaker is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm, such as screws, and can withstand low-pressure water jets.

Please be aware, that despite their weather-resistant rating, outside speakers are not designed to be fully submerged in water. Therefore, it's important to follow the manufacturer's guidance, and carefully consider the placement of the speakers to prevent any damage.

How do you install commercial outdoor speakers?

The installation process for outdoor loudspeakers differs depending on their type. The majority of commercial outdoor speakers are designed for 100V line installations, which allows multiple speakers to be connected to a single amplifier, perfect for large setups.

Begin by positioning your speakers in the ideal place. This will vary depending on the type of speaker. Garden speakers are designed to be placed discreetly within flower beds and foliage. Whereas wall-mounted attach securely to a wall or flat surface, using the provided mounting brackets. Often horn speakers also include a mounting bracket, allowing them to easily attach to stands.

Most weatherproof speakers have a passive design, so will next need to be connected to a suitable amplifier. Keep in mind that the amplifier itself should be installed indoors, as it is not weatherproof. Audio equipment and sources, such as a microphone, mixer and CD players, then be connected to the amplifier, depending on the available inputs. Alternatively, if the speaker has an active design, it should be directly connected to a main power supply, and audio sources can usually be connected directly to the speaker.

We offer a range of complete outdoor speaker systems that include all the equipment needed for setup. These systems typically include speakers, a suitable mixer-amplifier, and the required cables for connection. Some systems may also come with useful extras like a microphone and speaker stand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are commercial outdoor speakers waterproof?

Commercial outdoor speakers are designed to be weatherproof and typically possess a strong IP rating. This ensures their protection against water, rain, snow, dust, dirt, and sunlight, allowing for permanent installation in outdoor settings. However, it's important to note that most speakers cannot be completely submerged in water. Additionally, if your sound system includes an amplifier, it should be kept in a dry room, as this will not be weatherproof.

What should I look for in outdoor speakers?

When looking for outdoor speakers first consider your usage purposes and preferences, as a variety of speakers are available to cater to different needs. For example, there are garden speakers that are designed to be partially concealed among foliage, plants, or pots, providing a discreet appearance. There are also outdoor wall-mounted speakers which are popular for outdoor spaces like patios, and terraces. These speakers come in a variety of driver sizes and power ratings to suit all requirements.

In addition, there are horn speakers, which are an excellent choice for expansive outdoor areas such as sports grounds and shopping centres, because they can distribute sound over a wide area.

Most outdoor speakers have a passive design and require a connection to a suitable amplifier. Therefore, also consider the features you would like the amplifier to have, for example, Bluetooth connectivity.

Do outdoor speakers need to connect to an amplifier?

In most cases, outdoor speakers require a connection to an amplifier. This is because most speakers have a passive design, which relies on an external amplifier to provide power. However, if the speaker has an active design, it will not require a separate amplifier. Active speakers have built-in amplifiers and can therefore be directly connected to a mains power supply.

What are the best outdoor speakers for commercial settings?

The best outdoor speakers for commercial settings vary depending on your specific requirements and the outdoor setting in question. For instance, wall-mounted speakers are a popular choice for patio and terrace areas typically found in pubs and bars.

While horn speakers are an excellent choice for public address in large outdoor spaces like sports grounds. Whereas, discreet garden speakers are a great choice for low-level background music in a garden area.

Additionally, to find the perfect match consider the features you desire, for instance, a multi-zone amplifier and Bluetooth connectivity. For help finding the perfect weatherproof speakers for your needs, please reach out to our friendly team.

How do you set up outdoor speakers?

The set-up process for outdoor speakers varies depending on the type of speakers in use. The first stage is typically to position/mount your speakers in the desired location. For instance, garden speakers will usually be positioned discreetly within shrubbery and greenery.

In comparison, wall-mounted speakers will be mounted on a wall or other flat surface, using the provided mounting brackets. If possible, give wall speakers a bit of protection and shelter, for instance, install them under eaves.

The weatherproof speakers will then usually need to be wired to a suitable amplifier which will power the speakers (unless the speakers have an active design). Please note, the amplifier should be installed indoors as it will not be waterproof. Audio sources such as a mixer can then be connected to the amplifier.

How do outdoor speakers get power?

Outdoor speakers typically feature a passive design and therefore require a separate amplifier for power. This will need to be located indoors and be connected to a main power supply. The amplifier will then supply power to the passive speakers, allowing them to produce sound.

If an outdoor speaker has an active design, this means it has its own built-in power source and does not require an external amplifier. Instead, it can directly connect to a mains power supply and will be ready to produce sound.

Can outdoor speakers be left outside all year?

Outdoor speakers are specifically designed to endure diverse weather conditions, including rain, snow and sunlight. Therefore they should be safe to be permanently installed outdoors all year round. Nevertheless, it is advisable to check the IP rating and follow the manufacturer's guidelines and recommendations to ensure appropriate installation and positioning, thereby safeguarding the speakers.

What is the best wattage for outdoor speakers?

The wattage needed for outdoor speakers will depend on your usage requirements and the size of the outdoor area. For example, if you want to produce low-level background music in an area of greenery, a few discreet garden speakers hidden among the flower beds, each with a power output of 30W, would be sufficient.

Alternatively, for an outdoor setting like a pub or bar terrace, it would be more common to have four or more wall-mounted speakers with a total power output of 200-300 watts. Typically, for background music, a 6-inch speaker with a power rating of 50W can effectively cover an area of 25 square metres.

Can outdoor speakers be permanently installed outside?

Outdoor loudspeakers are specifically constructed to endure different weather conditions and they are highly durable. Therefore, they often are suitable for permanent installation outdoors. Nonetheless, it is essential to consult the manufacturer's instructions and recommendations and to check the IP rating to ensure their appropriateness. It is also important to ensure the speakers are correctly positioned and installed so they avoid damage.

Where do you put outdoor speakers?

The ideal placement for outdoor speakers will depend on the size and nature of your outdoor space. If using wall-mounted speakers in a terrace area, we suggest mounting them at a height to create wide sound distribution. A height of 3 metres or 10 feet is usually suitable, and we also recommend positioning speakers approximately 10 to 12 feet apart.

Alternatively, if you are using discreet garden speakers, these are usually placed within flower beds and shrubbery, providing an unobtrusive look.
