Floor Standing Systems

Floor standing systems each have several speaker drivers, which means that they will have a fuller sound compared to bookshelf speakers systems for example. Having multiple woofers will allow the speakers to produce bass frequencies more efficiently than a speaker cabinet with a single driver in it. This makes floor-standing systems perfect to use alongside video entertainment rather than casual music listening.

As with any passive speakers for the home, you will need an external home amplifier to power them. The amplifiers included in these kits are carefully selected due to their multiple input options to allow use with game consoles and CD players and to power the speakers adequately so they are working at their best potential. The cables needed to connect the speakers to the amplifier are also included so you don't need to worry about sourcing these.

Each of our floor standing speakers has a 3-way design, which means the bass, mid, and treble frequencies are all handled by separate drivers. This design is desirable in audio systems, as the frequencies produced will be as close as possible to the way the audio engineers of a song or mix intended the sound to be. This is great for music as you will hear frequencies you may not have been able to hear with a traditional 2-way speaker, but arguably better for entertainment purposes like films and TV.

Why are floor standing speakers good?

Floor standing HiFi speaker systems provide a more immersive experience when watching TV, and have a wide frequency response so you hear everything in an audio mix perfectly. They provide you with room-filling sound which is unarguably better than the speakers built into your TV.

Tower speakers have a high sensitivity, which means that they are capable of high volume output at a low wattage. This is great with home audio systems that don't have a high wattage output as the speakers will sound as they are supposed to.

Our floor standing speakers have multiple woofers, or speaker drivers, and a tweeter. These produce a nice mix of bass, mid and treble frequencies for a diverse output. The multiple bass woofers mean that the bass response is high, and this gives the speakers a deep and resonant sound. The midrange drivers and tweeters on the speakers produce all the higher frequencies, so as a whole the speakers will have a crisp and rounded sound, perfect for home entertainment and music.

The design of floor standing speakers is another reason they are a good choice for home audio. As suggested by their name, they stand on the floor without the need to be mounted onto stands, and they will usually be to the left and right of the TV. Bookshelf speakers are another common choice for home audio, and although they are smaller overall, if you are mounting them on stands, they will take up the same amount of room as a floor standing speaker. How can floor standing systems be used?

The main use of floor standing systems is for entertainment purposes in a TV setup. These systems offer a wide frequency response as well as high sensitivity, thus providing a solid all-around sound and high volume capabilities which is ideal for use in larger rooms like living rooms.

Floor standing systems can also be utilised effectively for music purposes. The range of speaker drivers and tweeters built into the cabinets provides great output capabilities. When connected to your TV system, you would usually use the speakers for films and gaming, but if you have people over and they're in the room, you can play some music through the system at high or low volume levels without the overall sound being affected.

The stereo amplifiers that we have included in our floor standing systems often include a couple of microphone inputs. This makes the system multi-purposeful, as you can use the system effectively for karaoke use at home without needing any extra equipment other than microphones. The backing track and lyrics can be provided by your TV, and your voice and music will come through the speakers, which is great for family gatherings and parties.

As well as inputs that allow connection to your TV, our stereo amplifiers often have an AUX input so you can connect a device like your phone, laptop or tablet to the speakers. This is ideal if you want to play some music that isn't available on your TV and great for get-togethers at home.

What floor standing system should I buy?

The system that you go for will depend on the size of the room you will use them in and how you intend to use them. We offer floor standing systems that have fewer speaker drivers than others, and these generally will not reach as high a volume, but the extra volume provided by our larger speakers may not be necessary in a smaller room.

Something to consider when looking for a floor standing speaker system is what you will be using with it. For example, if you only want to connect one device to it such as a DVD player, you should look for a system including an amplifier with not as many inputs. If you want to connect multiple devices to the system, such as games consoles and Blu-ray players, going for a system with multiple inputs would be the smarter choice.
