On Wall Speakers

Out of the two main types of installation speakers, on-wall speakers will provide more power and better sound distribution compared to ceiling speakers. Due to this, they are better fitted to larger, open spaces like dining rooms or even in a home theatre setup. They can, however, still be effective in smaller rooms such as studies and bedrooms, you would just not need as many of them and go for the small wall speakers rather than the larger options.

Our range of on-wall speakers also includes IP rated, or weather-resistant designs. These are ideal for rooms and spaces with moisture such as a kitchen or garden, as they can be permanently fixed in one location without the worry of them breaking from water damage.

A lot of our wall-mounted speakers are designed to be used in a 100v line setup, which means you can run multiple speakers off of one output on the amplifier. This is best for installations around your whole house, as you can daisy-chain each speaker together resulting in less cabling that needs to be wired back to the amplifier.

As well as 100v line speakers, we also offer low impedance designs which can be used with a standard stereo amplifier as you would see in a HiFi setup. These designs are great if you don't require as many speakers to be installed, and we also offer some wall-mounted speakers which have tappings on the back, allowing you to switch between low impedance and 100v line, making them suitable for a variety of different sized rooms.

What are the best on wall speakers?

The best on wall speakers will depend on the person and how you intend to use them. We offer many different sizes of wall-mounted speakers, each of which will be better in different sized rooms and spaces. For example, we offer smaller on-wall speakers in sizes such as 3" and 4" which are both better for smaller spaces for casual background music. We also offer larger speakers with 6.5" drivers which will be better for larger spaces like gardens.

As well as the different size options and the amount of volume and power they provide, we offer on wall speakers in an active or passive design. Active speakers will connect directly to mains power without the need for an external amplifier, while passive speakers will need a suitable amplifier in order to work.

Both active and passive on wall speakers are great choices depending on your preferences and the available space where you would install them. If you prefer to have a control unit in one location where you can adjust any settings, it may be the better choice to choose passive speakers as you can connect them to one central amplifier. Active speakers do not require this, so any of the controls will be located on the speaker units themselves.

For installation in bathrooms, kitchens or outdoors in the garden, we offer many on wall speakers with an IP rating, which means they are resistant to moisture and dust. These can come in both active and passive designs, and all offer great volume and sound dispersion while staying protected against moisture and rain.

Are wall speakers better than ceiling speakers?

Both styles of installed speakers are great for their own uses and purposes. Ceiling speakers are best suited for casual background music as they generally don't have a huge bass output. On wall speakers are generally better for more high-volume needs, as they offer better bass output and higher volume levels.

For outdoor installation, wall speakers will be the smarter choice. On wall speakers have a wide sound dispersion, which means that they will perform better in more open spaces when compared to ceiling speakers. Also considering the actual installation, ceiling speakers will need to be sitting flush in an enclosure in the ceiling to perform well, while wall-mounted speakers can be placed on any flat surface and perform efficiently.

This being said, the volume levels and sound dispersion that wall speakers have to offer may not be suitable for smaller rooms such as bedrooms and studies. Although they can be used at low volume levels, ceiling speakers would be the better choice in smaller spaces and offer better sound.

Wall speakers, compared to ceiling speakers, can perform well in rooms that ceiling speakers will also sound great in. For example, a medium-sized lounge would be suitable for wall speakers or ceiling speakers, but each design will be better for different things. For music purposes, wall speakers will offer more clarity and wider frequency response, but for entertainment purposes while watching TV, ceiling speakers would be perfect.

Are 100V line wall speakers better?

100V line speakers are great for larger installations that involve a higher number of speakers in total. They can be daisy-chained between each other when connected to a suitable 100V line amplifier without each speaker needing to wire back to the amp. Although this is great, 100V line speakers don't sound quite as good as low impedance (8 Ohm) speakers.

Low impedance speakers are better if you only require a small number of speakers altogether, as they are slightly more powerful and offer better sound quality, but you can only use a select few at a time. For example, having 2 small wall speakers with an 8-ohm design in a medium-sized room would be just as good as having 4 100V line speakers in the same room, so it really depends on your preferences and how you want the system to look.
