Architectural lighting is designed to illuminate and enhance the look of your building. Our lighting options produce an eye-catching wash effect that highlights walls and ceilings. Many colours and lighting effects are available, and our units are ideal for indoor and outdoor use.

We offer an extensive selection of high-quality architectural lighting that varies in size and power to suit all locations. Our outdoor lighting options are perfect for illuminating buildings, gardens, wedding venues and stages.

Discover our range of architectural lighting

We offer three main types of architectural lighting. These are wall wash uplighters, LED PAR cans and LED light bars. Each produces an eye-catching wash of light in various colours to create the ideal atmosphere. In addition to standalone mode, useful features such as DMX, master-slave mode, and pre-programmed light shows are often included.

Furthermore, our lighting options come in a range of power ratings to suit different sized spaces, from small walls to large outdoor buildings. Portable options with rechargeable batteries are also available.

DMX control

The majority of our architectural lighting has DMX functionality. This means that lights can be connected together and operated by a DMX controller. As a result, multiple lights can be used in unison, with each light producing the same effect at the same time.

Using DMX is ideal for large settings when multiple lights are in use, as it can synchronise each light. It produces a professional effect and provides full control of the lights and their effects, for example, colour, fade and light shows.

Many units additionally have master/slave synchronisation, meaning that the ‘slave’ units will copy the effect of the ‘master’ unit. This option does not require external DMX equipment. Some lights also include sound-to-light mode, so can respond to music and change colour in time to the beat if desired.

Wash Lights Suitable for Outdoor Use

Most of our units can be used indoors and outdoors. Our weatherproof lighting options have an IP rating which ensures they are protected against rain, dirt and sunlight. This means that they can be installed outdoors without damage.

The use of outdoor lighting is perfect for enhancing the exterior of a building, such as the sides or the front. It is also great at highlighting aspects of a garden.

Choosing the right Architectural Lighting

There are many factors to contemplate when choosing the best architectural lighting. Firstly, consider the different colours and lighting effects that you wish to achieve. Also think about the size of space you want to highlight, to determine the power needed. For instance, a small wall would only require a compact light with a lower wattage.

In addition, think about the number of units you may need. For example, a large building would require several fixtures to achieve the optimum effect.

If you want weatherproof lighting for outdoor use, ensure the unit has an IP rating. This will mean it can withstand adverse weather without damage. Options are also available with integrated rechargeable batteries, which are ideal if mains power sockets are not available.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Architectural Lighting?

Architectural lighting is designed to enhance and emphasise a building's aesthetic. It illuminates key parts of a location, showcasing architectural features, and creating an atmosphere. It can be used to complement both the interior and exterior of a setting, and we offer many weatherproof options for outdoor use. Our selection of architectural lighting produces a high output and a bright wash effect to highlight walls and ceilings. A great variety of colours can be achieved and features such as pre-programmed light shows are often included. It is ideal for illuminating gardens, buildings, wedding venues and stages, and is popular in retail, business and entertainment settings.

How Do You Set Up Architectural Lighting?

The set up process for architectural lighting will vary slightly depending on the type of lighting being used. However all our lighting systems are designed to be quick and straightforward to set up. Each can be used in standalone mode for plug-and-play use. This means that they can be simply connected to a mains power supply and positioned as desired, usually on the floor against a wall pointing upwards to wash the walls and ceilings with colour. Many of our lighting units also include adjustable mounting brackets, enabling them to be installed on structures such as truss or light bars at the ideal angle. In addition, the majority of our lights can be connected to a DMX controller, allowing you to customise the effect.

What Effects Can Architectural Lighting Produce?

The exact effects that can be produced by architectural lighting differ between systems. Our lighting produces a wash of colour in a range of colours on a particular wall. You can usually choose between a static effect, or a light show that transitions between colours at various speeds. Many units include a selection of pre-programmed light shows, or provide the option to create custom effects through DMX control. Some models include additional functions such as fade for a smooth transition between colours, and a flash function for fast changes.

How Do You Control Architectural Lighting?

Architectural lighting is simple to operate. Each lighting unit will have a standalone mode, for easy plug-and-play use, with no other equipment needed. Many systems will include a selection of pre-programmed light shows, in addition to preset colours. In addition, most systems are DMX compatible, providing the ability to adjust the brightness and colour and produce eye-catching effects with a DMX controller. This also enables you to control multiple lights simultaneously. Some units also include a remote control, so that you can easily operate them from a distance.

How Many Watts Does Architectural Lighting Need?

The wattage needed for your architectural lighting will largely depend on the size of the space that you wish to wash with colour. We provide an extensive range of lighting options in various power ratings to suit all settings. For instance, we offer powerful par can systems where each individual LED light features 18W, providing an extremely bright output. These are ideal for large venues and outdoor buildings and gardens. At the other end of the spectrum there are more compact systems, for example providing 3W per LED light, perfect for highlighting a smaller wall within a venue. Please get in touch with our Electromarket team for advice on the ideal wattage for your needs.

What Types Of Architectural Lighting Are Available?

We offer a hand-picked selection of architectural lighting to suit a variety of locations, and most are IP rated for outdoor use. Wall wash uplighters are a popular type and they produce a wide wash of colour on a wall or ceiling, ideal for large areas. Par cans are also commonly used and create a bright wash of colour, usually in a tighter band. These are versatile and can be placed on the floor and tilted upwards, or can be mounted on T-bars and truss. We additionally provide LED light bars, which produce a beautiful wash effect and are perfect for smaller spaces and windows. The number and power of the built-in LEDs vary significantly between models to suit different sized locations. In addition, the included features differ, for instance many units have; in-built pre-programmed shows, sound-to-light reactivity, DMX compatibility, and master/slave mode. There are also portable lighting options with in-built rechargeable batteries. For help finding the best lighting for your setting please get in touch with our expert team.

Can Architectural Lighting Be Used Outdoors?

Yes, most of our architectural lighting is designed for both indoor and outdoor use, enabling you to enhance the exterior of any building, for instance by illuminating the sides of a building. The majority of our lighting units have an IP rating, enabling them to be used for outdoor installation. This rating means that they are protected against harsh weather conditions and are resistant to rain, dirt and sunlight. You can therefore use them continuously outdoors without any damage.

Can Architectural Lights Be Linked Together?

Yes, it is usually possible to link architectural lighting units together to create an impressive sychronised show. Typically, in a large venue you will require multiple lighting units spaced throughout. Many of our systems are therefore DMX controllable, which means that you can use a DMX controller to control all connected lights and customise their performance. Some systems also include a master and slave mode, enabling one light unit to act as the controller, while the connected lights mirror the effect.

How Is Architectural Lighting Powered?

The majority of architectural lighting is powered by a connection to a mains power supply, and will come with the necessary power cable. However, a range of portable, battery powered lighting units are also available. For instance, the BeamZ Pro WBP612IP. This model has a built-in rechargeable battery that can last up to 20 hours. It also has an IP65 rating so is perfect for outdoor use.
