Stage spotlights are an industry-standard example of atmospheric lighting conditions to enhance your presence on stage. Producing a narrow beam and field angle, their output has a defined edge to prevent light spilling into surrounding areas allowing highlighting of specific objects or people. Some spotlights feature fresnel lenses, which concentrates light beams into a more powerful output, making them great for large stages.

Wash lights are the opposite solution to stage spotlights as they produce a wide wall of light, with soft edges that allows it to disperse into the surroundings. This is perfect for background lighting when placed at the back of the stage. They are almost always supplied with a hanging bracket to permanently or temporarily install them on truss systems or on T-bar stands. By hanging them above the stage and audience, you can flood the entire room in a vibrant wash of light.

Travelling shows, such as touring bands or performers, can revel in the fact that our entire stage lighting range can be transported for temporary and permanent fittings. Constructed with heavy-duty housings, and robust flight cases available for purchase, you can comfortably take these devices on the road for easy set up from venue to venue.

Programmed stage lighting shows

Laser light shows are an excellent addition for concerts, with programmable graphics and effects available on our higher-end BeamZ professional devices. The lasers in this range feature both DMX and ILDA, with DB-25 connections. Operating one laser on its own is best achieved with ILDA, due to its better signal strength and use of analog modulation, resulting in greater overall consistency and performance. ILDA controls laser shows in a digital format on computer software, allowing you to create graphics such as texts, images and patterns.

DMX control is better for running large lighting setups consisting of multiple lasers or other band lights, such as moving heads. These lighting fixtures feature rotational mechanisms that allow movement in almost all directions for flawless room and audience scanning. With lights constantly moving around the stage and the crowd, you can create a high-energy display to ensure an enjoyable live performance.

Moving head light types include: wash, spot and beam, all of which are used for different purposes. Beam lights have an extremely narrow-angle, similar to that of lasers, and is mostly used for complimenting the use of other effects. The beam visibility can be enhanced with the use of a front projection screen, such as smoke or haze, in order to create an impressive and atmospheric performance with these band lights.

Integrating moving spots, beams or wash lights and lasers into your concert means that you can design a precise light show with various patterns, colours and strobes that can move around the venue or remain static for backlighting effects.

Effect Lighting for Stage Events

Effect lighting plays a crucial role in stage events, offering diverse techniques that create captivating visual experiences. From band performances to conferences and theatrical productions, the right lighting techniques can transform any stage event, making it more engaging and visually stimulating.

In band performances, effect lighting is essential for setting the mood and energy of the show. Techniques such as moving heads, strobes, and colour washes can be used to match the intensity of the music. Moving heads, which are highly versatile, can sweep across the stage, spotlighting different band members or creating dynamic patterns that move in sync with the rhythm. Strobes add a dramatic flair, particularly during high-energy moments, while colour washes fill the stage with vibrant hues that change to reflect the tone of each song.

For conferences, effect lighting helps to maintain audience interest and focus. Techniques such as gobo projectors, which project patterns or logos onto surfaces, can be used to reinforce branding or highlight key themes. Spotlights are crucial for drawing attention to speakers and presenters, ensuring they remain the focal point. Additionally, subtle colour changes and lighting transitions can be used to signal different segments of the event, helping to keep the audience engaged and providing visual cues for transitions between speakers or topics.

In theatrical productions, effect lighting is used to create atmosphere, define spaces, and support the narrative. Techniques such as backlighting and side lighting can add depth and dimension to the stage, making scenes more visually interesting. Gobos can be used to project images and textures, adding layers to the set design. Lighting effects such as fades and blackouts are essential for smooth transitions between scenes, helping to guide the audience's emotional journey throughout the performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Are Fresnel Lights?

Different types of light fixtures feature various lenses, lamps or diodes. Fresnel lights replace the conventional optical lenses with a rimmed surface made up of several concentric grooves. These thick lenses concentrate light beams into a magnified and powerful output with a brighter presence.

What Is A DMX Lighting System?

DMX allows complete control over all of a light’s integrated features. Through DMX, you can install a large lighting setup to deliver a synchronised performance of programmed effects. Alternatively, you can programme each light individually to deliver a varied display with colour changes, fades, movements and strobes at precise intervals.

How Does Lighting For Stages Work?

Some lights operate on pre-programmed shows and some produce static, continuous light. Our range of BeamZ professional lasers can be digitally programmed via ILDA to create any text or image. DMX control allows you to use multiple lights to produce a synchronised light show with effects such as strobe, panning and colour changes.

How Are Stage Lights Used To Create Special Effects?

When using a laser on its own, ILDA is an ideal control protocol allowing you to create any text or pattern on your computer to use during the performance. DMX light and laser address gives you control over effects such as strobe, panning and colour changes to illuminate the venue in a varied and professional display.

What Is Ambient Lighting?

Ambient lighting for stage performances and concerts is meant to illuminate the entire space to set the mood, such as with a colourful wash. Spotlights deliver a narrow beam of light to highlight specific objects and with a moving head, it can scan throughout the room for a high-energy display.

What Are The Functions Of Lighting?

Lighting systems on stage are used for creating a great atmosphere to suit the performance. For example, during music concerts, lights are used to complement the energy of the song and to enhance the presence of the band. It can even be used in time with the music.

How Do You Use Stage Lights?

Stage lights can be used with DMX control to have complete control over the available functions. Lights can either be placed on the floor at different parts of the stage or mounted to light stands and truss to get the perfect angle of lighting in order to create a suitable atmosphere during the concert.

How Does Lighting Help A Performance?

With the use of varied effects, like strobe, lasers and panning, you can precisely program the display to sync up with your performance, such as a music concert. The addition of wash lights, spotlights and lasers will guarantee an enjoyable atmosphere that matches the energy and mood of the song.
