Our range of outside speakers come in a variety of designs. Wall-mounted speakers are one of them, and these provide a wide sound dispersion and high volume output, so are great for places like swimming pools.

Column speakers are another, and these have a tighter sound dispersion which is great for longer distances like outdoor bars. Horn speakers have a higher frequency output, so are better suited for announcement purposes in outdoor sporting events as an example.

Included with some of our outdoor speakers are amplifiers. The amplifier powers and sends audio to each speaker, but you need to make sure that an amplifier matches the specifications of the speakers you're using with it. We have put together kits that achieve this so that the speakers work as efficiently as possible.

Weatherproof speakers can be installed permanently outside, and this is perfect for places like seating areas in restaurants. Having weather-resistant speakers means that they will be protected from splashes and rain, so you don't need to worry about them getting water damage and failing.

Several of our outdoor speakers are run in 100V line operation. Put simply, this means that you can run a large number of speakers from the same output of an amplifier in a daisy-chain connection, and this is ideal for large installations where there will be many speakers required such as a running track or stadium.

Choosing the right outdoor speakers

To find the best outdoor speakers for you, consider your specific needs and the type of outdoor space that you will be using them in.

For example, if you plan to play background music at low levels in a garden area, take a look at our selection of discreet garden speakers. These speakers can be partially concealed amongst bushes, plants, and pots, creating an unobtrusive look that will not detract from your garden.

Alternatively, for outdoor patio and terrace areas, wall-mounted speakers are a popular choice. These are commonly used in pubs and bars to provide background music. They can be mounted easily on a variety of surfaces, and usually include a mounting bracket. In addition to traditional wall-mount speakers, there are also column speakers that can be mounted on a wall. These often have a longer throw, suiting larger areas where greater coverage is needed.

There are also horn (tannoy) speakers, which are perfect for large outdoor areas, for instance, sports grounds. This type of speaker has a highly efficient design and produces a powerful output, ideal for expansive spaces. They are a popular choice for public address purposes.

As well as the design of the speaker, it is also important to consider the features you would like. The majority of outdoor speakers have a passive design and will require a connection to a suitable amplifier in order to receive power. The available amplifiers differ significantly and offer a variety of useful features. For instance, multi-zone amplifiers are available, and many mixer amplifiers include Bluetooth connectivity. We provide a selection of complete outdoor speaker systems that feature a suitable amplifier, so you have everything needed to get started.

Suitable for all weather conditions

Our outdoor loudspeakers have a weatherproof IP rating. This means that they are protected against dust and moisture. Usually, they are able to withstand either low-pressure or high-pressure water jets. As a result, the speakers are suitable for permanent use outdoors and are protected against adverse weather, including rain, and snow.

The IP rating will be clearly visible on the product description of each outdoor speaker, and it does vary between speakers, so we recommend comparing models to find the ideal speaker for your requirements. For example, an IP66 rating means the unit is totally dust-tight and is protected against direct high-pressure water jets. While, an IP45 rating means the speaker is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm, for instance, screws, and is protected against low-pressure jets.

Please note, despite their weather-resistant rating, the majority of speakers cannot withstand being fully submerged in water. Therefore it is important to carefully consider the placement of speakers.

How do you set up an outdoor speaker system?

The exact setup process may vary depending on the type of outdoor speaker system. Some speakers are designed for an 8-ohm system, while commercial outdoor speakers are usually suitable for an 100V line system. 100V line installations are ideal for large commercial setups because multiple speakers can be connected to a single amplifier.

Typically, the first step of the setup process is placing or installing your speakers according to your preference. Garden speakers are commonly placed discreetly within flower beds and foliage. While wall-mounted and horn speakers will need to be securely attached to a wall or another flat surface. Mounting brackets are usually provided for easy installation.

Most speakers have a passive design so will then need to be wired to a suitable amplifier. Please note, the amplifier will need to be located indoors as it is not weatherproof. Any additional equipment can then be connected to the mixer-amplifier. For instance microphones, CD players and MP3 players. In comparison, if the speaker has an active design, it connects directly to a main power supply, and audio sources can usually be wired directly to the speaker.

We offer a selection of complete outdoor speaker systems that include everything needed for setup, featuring; speakers, a compatible mixer-amplifier and the cables needed for connection. Some systems also include useful extras, such as microphones and speaker stands.
