Brett's Biography
I suppose these days I would be considered a veteran of this industry, but my origin story stems from a love of engineering at a young age.
I was an apprentice to a large car manufacturer straight out of school and learned many valuable skills about electrical and mechanical principles, little did I know that these would transition into my current career so easily.
My interest in sound equipment began during the days of listening to my brother’s bedroom DJ skills. I too then got involved with the wheels of steel and was forever hooked into the way of life.
I soon found that lighting and lasers were also something I got very excited about, and I began to create custom-made lighting rigs for our numerous parties. This expanded into the need for a loud PA and I found myself building a set of scoop bass bins from old wardrobes not soon after.
My working life changed course in my early twenties, and I became involved with sales for a small Disco Equipment company. This was one of many industry jobs I did for a few years before finding my own path. Eventually, I decided to start my own sound and lighting company which I ran for 10 years, doing everything from sales and hire, to events and installations. I became quite experienced and well-respected in the industry with the brands I used. I was also instrumental in the launch of the UK laser effects boom in 2010, being the first importer of RGB models that were not gas power.
During my mid-thirties I grew tired of running my own business (no holiday) and decided to go back into employment. My former employer Destiny Entertainments showed an interest in bringing me back aboard. They were keen to share my experience with the sales team and wanted someone with a technical background.
So here I sit. I manage the Pro side of the business, from PA systems, stages, truss, roofs, lights and any other projects along the way. We have some big feathers in our cap to be proud of and many more will follow as we grow.
Guess I am a Veteran after all!
