Providing a bright light output that covers a huge surface area, our DMX blinders are perfect to light up audiences during stage performances at the exact times that you need for your requirements. The LEDs within each unit have a COB (Chip On Board) design, providing fantastic light efficiency with minimal heating to ensure safe and continuous operation throughout an entire event.

Many of our stage blinders double as strobe lights, making them highly versatile for different uses. The 2-in-1 effect of a blinder and a strobe means that they can be implemented into an existing lighting system to add to the effects and then also be used as standard blinder lights during intermissions and breaks in a performance or show.

We also offer blinder stage lights that are IP rated, meaning that they can be used in an outdoor setting without any damage occurring to them that can be caused by rain showers. The weatherproof design makes them great for outdoor festivals, for example, as they can be used consistently and safely throughout the entire event.

In terms of using them in a stage setup, audience blinders are most commonly mounted at the highest point of the stage so that they can cover the entire audience easier. Our stage blinders have mounting brackets included with fully adjustable designs to angle them perfectly for your exact requirements.

DMX Blinder Lights

Our stage, or audience, blinders feature DMX compatibility, giving you the option to use suitable DMX software or hardware in order to fully customise the output to work perfectly for your requirements. For example, you can use DMX in order to achieve full control over the dimmer, strobe, macro and speed.

Although our stage blinders can be used effectively in a stage lighting setup with the standalone preset auto-shows, they are best when you have full control over them with DMX in order to highlight your audience at exact moments in your performances. For example, if you are using blinders during band performances and there are particular sections that your audience sings, you can use the blinders to establish the exact moment when they are meant to sing while being able to see them perfectly.

As well as being able to choose exactly when the audience blinders light up when using DMX, you can also choose the overall brightness by adjusting the dim level. By doing this, you can set the blinder stage lights to be at a lower level so that they don’t light up the audience and instead act as part of the rest of your lighting setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Are Audience Blinders?

Audience blinders are extremely bright lights that are intended to aim towards the audience during stage performances and productions in order for the performers and people on stage to see the audience members clearly.

Can Blinder Lights Be Used Outdoors?

If the blinder stage light has an IP rating then yes, it can be used in an outdoor environment during festivals, for example. Make sure to check the specifications of each blinder unit to see if they are IP rated or not.

Is DMX Necessary For Blinder Lights?

DMX control will be necessary if you are using stage blinders in the traditional sense to light your audience, as you will be able to choose exactly when they illuminate to match your requirements. If you are using a 2-in-1 blinder as purely a strobe light, DMX control will not be 100% necessary, although this does depend on your personal preference.

How Did Blinder Stage Lighting Originate?

Blinder stage lights were originally made for video productions in order to effectively light a movie or TV show set. At some point, a lighting engineer decided to face them towards the audience of a stage performance, thus creating the effect that lighting rigs and festivals use globally.

What Other Uses Do Audience Blinders Have?

Audience blinder lights can be used effectively during theatre performances during particular scenes to convey the mood and scene better. For example, if there is a gunshot in a scene, stage blinders can quickly flash to make the shot more impactful.

Are Blinder Lights The Same As Strobes?

No, blinders are different as they provide a constant light output rather than a flash that strobes provide. That being said, our stage blinders also double as strobes, making them highly versatile for different uses and requirements.

Where Should Blinders Be Placed On A Stage?

Stage blinder lights should be mounted as high up on your stage as possible in order to illuminate a further distance of your audience. If you are also using blinder lights so that your audience members cannot see anyone on stage at certain times, then it is ideal to have one or more placed at the bottom of the stage as well.

Are Blinder Lights Harmful For Eyes?

No, despite their name, stage blinder lights are not harmful to audiences unless you stare at them directly. They provide extremely bright light output in order to effectively highlight an entire crowd of people, so they should not be directly looked at as this may cause some damage to your eyesight, the same as looking directly at the sun, for example.

Which Blinder Light Should I Buy?

We offer a range of DMX blinders that can also be used in a plug-and-play manner, making them efficient for different purposes. The main factor you should consider when purchasing a stage blinder is the overall brightness that each unit can achieve so that you know if it is suitable for your intended venues and applications.
