What is a UV Light Bar?

A UV Light Bar is made up of small ultraviolet lights and is the easiest way to set the tone at any party. The purple glow produced by this effect has become synonymous with the party atmosphere and it is now enjoyed by thousands of people the world over. Many use this effect to deepen the experience of Halloween parties, which work incredibly well when coupled with smoke machines.

There are a few different types of UV bar so be sure to select the right one for your needs, we stock powerful LED driven units and also standard bulb versions. The LEDs are great value for money as they shine brighter, therefore, your blacklight effect has a far wider coverage of a given room as a result however the bulb and tube-based options are for a more subtle or directed effect.

Another key point is that there are various pros and cons to both LEDs and bulbs especially LEDs which run much cooler, save electricity and last particularly longer than bulbs do. As mentioned above bulbs and tube lights are not as bright as LEDs despite granting the option to focus the effect in a more controlled way. Also, some bulbs are very hot to the touch which could be a fire hazard or be a hazard to youngsters in the same way.

When and where would I use a blacklight bar?

Mostly used during the Halloween season, a blacklight bar suits all of your celebrations all year round and has become common in nightclubs and at raves over the last three decades. Most tend to be as simple as a button press but some of our choices have built-in DMX options too which is mainly used at events with a lighting controller. They are ideal for parties in the home and are easily transportable to be used elsewhere accordingly, in longer rooms it may be an idea to place a UV bar at each end for a full area of effect.

DMX is for the professionals and is where multiple lights and special effects are linked together to form one cohesive show. Of course, you’ll see this effect during stage musicals and theatre plays with various dimming and strobing moments peppered throughout. UV-based DMX is usually a faint effect mixed in with moving head lights and other pro-grade equipment but it all depends on what the scene calls for.

UV Bars and ultraviolet light, in general, show up in more places than you would think in day-to-day life. For example, a lot of modern recording studios will use the effect to give their space a spot of colour. For the most part, those that own a bar can easily change the feel of their studio decor at the push of a button.

How do UV bars work and why?

Ultraviolet light is created from the inner filtration of a light beam and only the UV portion of the beam remains. This refractive process is what produces the violet hue of the bar itself which in turn will make other bright colours seem vivid. Many of our customers use this product in conjunction with neon colour, neon parties take place all over the UK where guests wear colours to stand out beneath the dance floors UV light bars.

UV Light is present in sunlight so some may perceive these bulbs to be harmful in this situation in particular. It must be remembered that this is not the case due to the modest power rating within the bars themselves. With this in mind, it is recommended you take care if they are placed nearby to where you are working as there’s a chance minor issues may happen to UV susceptible people.

Who are UV light bars built for specifically?

A fair few industries make some use of UV bars including pet shops, tanning salons, theatre productions and even in forensic science while looking for evidence. To clarify, this isn’t to say it can’t be enjoyed by everybody, they just have their own specific ways to use the effect. Due to the low wattage of our blacklight bars they are harmless when used sensibly and are without a doubt the best choice to inject some atmosphere to your party.

As has been noted anybody can make use of ultraviolet light in some way and it is now more available than ever before. Most of our options come with a handy set of hanging brackets so generally the customers that own one of our UV bars will mount them to the wall in some way for best results. Are UV light bars safe?

UV light, whilst potentially dangerous if someone is exposed to it for too long, can be artificially made and is even used in hospitals and laboratories. However, in UV light bars, the UV light is harmless to humans, therefore they are safe to use.

What are the benefits of UV lights?

One benefit of UV lights is their unique ability to make certain materials glow in the dark, which can create some visually brilliant effects. It can also be paired with other types of lights for maximum effect, such as strobe lights or even laser lights.

Furthermore, the amount of UV light emitted by disco UV lights is safe for human health, not being dangerous to skin or eyes, meaning that people can enjoy the effects of the lights without having any harm done to them.

What colours look the best under UV lights?

Do UV lights waste a lot of electricity?

UV lights are not as efficient as regular lights; they use considerably more energy, meaning that their bulbs will need to be replaced more often. Of course, the amount of electricity it uses will depend on the amount you use the light.

Does it have to be dark to use UV lights?

To see the full extent of the effects of UV lights, it should be as dark as possible; that way, the glow effect is at its very best. If it is light where you are using the UV lights, then the effect will be very faint, or even completely non-existent.

Is there a difference between a UV light and a blacklight?

There is no difference between the two - a blacklight is a form of UV light. Blacklights emit ultraviolet light, which causes certain materials to glow in the dark. This effect is normally used in the entertainment industry or for decorative lighting, like in clubs or for Halloween decorations.

What should I look for when buying a UV light?

What you should look for when buying a UV light depends on what you are using it for, and the size of the room/venue you’re using it for. Typically, club UV lights are bigger and are designed to be used in bigger settings, therefore are quite powerful. Club UV lights can also perform more effects and more advanced features, such as strobing, colour mixing and DMX technology. You may also want multiple UV lights in a bigger venue/room.

On the other hand, home UV lights are smaller and less powerful than club UV lights, since they are designed to light up a smaller space. They can’t perform as many effects, and often don’t have other features like strobing, colour mixing or DMX technology.

Do white clothes glow under UV lights?
