Moving head wash lights are common nowadays in stage shows, whether it be for live music or theatre productions. The wash effect is achieved due to the wide lens and multiple LEDs built into the cabinet, compared to the tighter, smaller lens of a moving spot light. They are great for lighting a larger surface area of the stage rather than a single spot.

In a theatre setting, LED wash moving head lights provide a good opportunity for crowd interaction. If you use a few of them, you are able to light up an entire stage, and then due to the mechanical design of the lights, you can light up the audience with the same ones. This is a benefit over idle wash lights as you can light up multiple places in a room using the same lights without having to manually relocate them.

All of our moving wash lights feature RGB colour-mixing. This means that you can change the colour it is set to, either during a light show in a single event or for a completely different event if you are going for a different theme. You can also use these lights as a standard idle wash light, making them multi-purposeful for different situations.

The auto-shows that are pre-programmed are useful, and the bonus of DMX on these lights adds to this because you can have complete control over the lights as long as you have extra equipment like a DMX controller.

How Does A Moving Head Wash Light Work?

Moving head wash lights work in a mechanical way in which there is an integrated motor in the base of the unit that makes the top of the light rotate on a 360-degree angle. There is then another motor built into the top of the light where the lens is located, giving the top part the ability to move vertically. This design gives the light the ability to shine in nearly all directions, giving you full control over the position of the wash.

Compared to moving spot lights, a moving head washer has a much wider lens that provides a wide wash of static colour with smooth edges and no patterns. These are particularly great in stage performances, as you can light up large floor areas with one unit. Typically, the further away that a moving head wash light is from the surface you are lighting up, the larger of a surface area it will cover.

Moving head lights can be placed free-standing using the base, but they also feature brackets on the bottom of each unit, giving you the ability to mount them on truss or lighting stands. Ideal for DJs in clubs and pubs or for stage and theatre performances, moving head wash lights can really transform a lighting setup to look as impressive as possible.

The multiple different colours that moving head washers produce are achieved by LED colour mixing. The most basic units will have RGB LEDs, capable of up to 8 colours, while the higher-end units will have a minimum of RGBW LEDs, providing many more achievable colours. These are ideal if you will be hosting many events in the same venue with multiple different themes that need to be achieved.

DMX Moving Head Wash Lights

DMX connections and compatibility on our huge range of moving head washers is a highly important feature for larger productions and events. DMX gives you full control over the washer and the effects it produces as well as positioning.

By using an LED wash moving head light with DMX software/hardware, you have the ability to program the unit to perform a custom show. This includes live handling of the light whereby you can adjust sliders and settings on your DMX program to take control over the moving head in real-time.

For stage performances, whether it is theatre or live music, lighting is a huge factor that contributes to the overall experience. Lighting successfully portrays themes with different colours, and it also works hand-in-hand with music or actors. For example, moving head wash lights can be set to be sound-reactive, meaning they will pulse, change colours and move to the rhythm of music for a synchronised light display which is sure to impress audiences.

DMX connections also give you the ability to use two or more of the same unit in master/slave mode. This mode allows you to set one light to an auto preset show or in sound-to-light mode so that a second connected unit will produce the same effects and movements at the same time. This is ideal for smaller applications like pub gigs and weddings, but it can also be used effectively in larger-scale events.
