Our moving spot lights offer high-quality performance and build design. The narrow lens of each light allows for a focused beam of light in a cone-like shape, which means it can light up one specific point of a stage rather than a wider area like a wash light does.

Some of the mini LED spot moving head lights that we offer have a gobo function. This will produce patterns like stars, semi-circles and abstract designs, while you still have the option to have an open gobo so the produced effect will be a full circle like you would see with a classic spotlight on a stage.

A great feature that these moving head spot lights have is RGB colour mixing. This feature means that you can mix the LEDs to produce at least 8 colours including white if you're going for the classic spotlight effect.

In order to have the light focus on a particular place on the stage, you would need to connect it with DMX hardware or software. By using the light with DMX control, you have complete control over where it points to, the colours it produces, as well as features like dimming, strobe, fade and focus.

For smaller productions such as small clubs, pubs or halls, you may only be after one moving spot light for the effect you are going for. If this is the case, most of our moving head spot lights will come with a remote which is extremely user friendly and useful if you don't have DMX equipment.

What are Moving Head Spot Lights Used For?

The easy implementation of moving head spot lights at any sized venue provides a light show that is guaranteed to suit purpose. As mentioned, their narrow lens creates a focused light beam of one static colour (such as white, for the typical spotlight effect) or can even project patterns from gobos.

There is the option of installing them both above a space with included clamps for hanging them from light bars or truss, or they can be set up on the floor at the front or back of a  stage, for example. Our range of head lights have small feet on their bases for balanced freestanding, where they can shine upwards and all around illuminating the entire area. Building up an entire collection of them will create an impressive light show with a variety of effects that can be utilised for an enhanced experience.

Buy Moving Spots For In Venues

Quite often these types of lights are used portably, i.e. for touring musicians going from venue to venue with their own light show. With programmable effects, they offer reliability and consistency in their output as they will deliver the same show every night.

This also makes it perfect for theatres (such as in the West End), who are hosting long-running shows. As they can be placed in the venue for longevity, you can program the shows just one time and receive the same results for months and months, and then do it all again whenever you need to. They also suit pubs, clubs and dance halls, where just one or a few of them will make for an excellent addition to the ambience and atmosphere.

Effects Of A Mini LED Spot Moving Head Light

Amongst our large range of moving spots, some packages include flight cases making them especially usable portably and provide protection to the units in storage. There are also some lights that are “hybrid”, like the BeamZ Professional Tiger 7R, meaning that they offer both the spotlight effect as well as a wash effect, outputting a large wall of light with soft edges that spreads across a large space.

Spotlight effects create a fixed area of light onto a projected surface, usually a stage, to draw the attention of the audience to one person or thing. They can even create a thick beam of light that can shine across the desired area. Using several together at once can create different patterns and largely illuminating results.

Additionally, there is the option of colour mixing the mini LED spot moving head light’s RGB/RGBW LEDs with pre-programmed colour mixes on the DMX channels. Added gobo wheels also provide a whole variety of patterns that can be utilised with performances for interesting displays.

Project Patterns And Shapes With Moving Spot Lights

Gobos are thin pieces of metal with patterns/shapes/words etched into them that can produce silhouettes of the designs when placed in front of a beam. They sit on a wheel that is comprised of around 8 gobos so that multiple are available at once. On these wheels, they can either be projected in a static state for a still silhouette or shown while rotating or shaking.

They don’t necessarily have to create shapes when used, as some can break up the solid beam of light and turn it into several beams, making it look like you are using more than one light. Adding to the shapes available, there are some spots on gobo wheels that are interchangeable so that you can swap in your own gobos that you have on hand or have had especially made. Open spaces on a wheel result in one solid beam spot.

Moving Head Spots With DMX Addressing

Construct a full stage lighting setup by combining up to 32 fixtures in a daisy chain. When paired altogether with the correct DMX cables, each has to be addressed accordingly to deliver the effect desired.

Features available using DMX addressing include: solid colour beams that can then be mixed using different values (e.g. value 015-019 for Red and Yellow blending), static/rotating/shaking gobos, panning, tilting, strobe, dimming and adjustments to the effect timings. The panning and tilting abilities can produce a great looking light show with constantly moving head spots of light.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is A Moving Head Spot Light?

Moving head spot lights create a bright focused beam of light in a cone-like shape. They usually have RGB or RGBW colour mixing, enabling you to produce a great variety of colours. Our moving head spot lights are often used in stage and theatre productions and live music performances, as they are ideal for lighting specific points of a stage. They are also popular choices for creating a party atmosphere in clubs, bars and events halls, and can be permanently installed or used portably by mobile DJs and touring musicians. We offer an extensive range of high-quality spot lights to suit a variety of purposes.

Should I Use A Smoke Machine With A Moving Head Spot Light?

We recommend using a smoke or haze machine with a moving head spot light, as it greatly enhances the effect of the light beams, creating a more impressive light show. Without the use of a smoke effect you can only see the beams of light on surfaces such as walls, floors and ceilings. However, when you use a smoke machine, you can see the actual beams of light in the air as well.

Do I Need Moving Head Light Gobos?

Gobos are not essential, but they are a great way to enhance your light show. A gobo is a slim piece of metal or plastic that is designed to cover the lens of your moving head spot light to produce an eye-catching effect. They can project a great range of eye-catching patterns and shapes, such as stars. You can also use a gobo to break up solid beams of light and turn them into several beams. Many of our moving head spot lights include gobos, and often feature a rotating wheel with numerous patterns to choose, and the ability to add your own custom gobos. In addition, you can often choose between a static gobo effect, or a rotating and shaking effect.

Can Moving Head Spot Lights Be Linked Together?

Moving head spot lights can be linked together to produce a synchronised light show. Often in large venues multiple units are used in unison, creating an impressive effect. Most lights are DMX controllable, meaning that you can use a DMX controller to coordinate all connected lights and customise their effects. Some models also include a master/slave function, enabling one unit to be the main controller, while the connected lights mirror the effect.

How Do You Install A Moving Head Spot Light?

Moving head spot lights are often installed at a height to maximise their effect, for instance, on T-bar lighting stands, or on a truss system. Each unit usually includes a bracket so that they can be connected directly with nuts and bolts or clamps. Alternatively, our spot lights can simply be placed free-standing, as they feature small feet on their base. Or they can be placed on a podium or plinth stand, which is a popular choice for mobile DJs and musicians.

What Types Of Moving Head Spot Lights Are Available?

We offer a wide selection of moving head spot lights to suit all users and requirements. Spot lights vary significantly in size and power, for instance, we provide large powerful models ideal for permanent installation in a sizeable setting. We also offer compact units perfect for smaller venues and mobile DJs, as they can be easily transported. In addition, there are hybrid models which combine a spot light and wash light effect for a versatile and unique performance. Furthermore, packages are available that contain multiple units and useful extras such as flight cases and plinths. For help finding the best moving head spot lights for your needs do not hesitate to get in touch with our expert team.

How Do You Control A Moving Head Spot Light?

Most moving head spot lights can be controlled in various ways. Firstly, they will have a standalone mode for simple plug-and-play use. Usually, a selection of pre-set light shows will be included that can easily be selected. Many models also feature sound-to-light mode, and include an in-built microphone that picks up soundwaves and synchronises the light effect to the music. A useful remote control is often included so that you can easily operate the unit from a distance. In addition, most moving head spot lights are DMX controllable, allowing you to use a DMX controller to have complete control of all effects, including; pan, tilt, speed, strobe, colour, and brightness.

How Should I Transport Moving Head Spot Lights?

We recommend transporting your moving head spot lights in a suitable padded carry bag, or a flight case. This will ensure that they are protected during transport when they are used portably. The cases also protect your lights from dust when they are in storage and not being used. In addition, useful extras such as cables and clamps can usually fit inside easily. We offer a range of suitable flight cases and carry bags, and some of our packages include these for your convenience.
