There are two main types of installation speakers; in-ceiling and wall speakers. Each of these is more effective in different spaces, so it is important to know what style of speaker will be best for the room you would like to have them installed. Ceiling speakers are more effective in smaller rooms like bedrooms and bathrooms, as they are not as powerful as wall-mounted speakers and blend into the room much better for a discreet finish.

Wall-mounted speakers, overall, will be more powerful than ceiling speakers which are one reason why they are better suited to larger, more open spaces or rooms like dining rooms or gardens. They also have a better sound dispersion compared to ceiling speakers, as ceiling speakers have a more narrow sound field while the sound from wall speakers will be more spread out.

Included in these systems are active/passive speaker sets. Active/passive sets will include one active speaker which provides any inputs such as a line input or Bluetooth and one passive speaker which is wired to the active unit using a standard speaker cable. This is better with a home sound system installation in a room like a study, as you wouldn't need as many speakers to reach the required volume level.

In a home audio system installation, smart speakers and amplifiers are great. You can connect the speakers to your WiFi or local network for wireless audio streaming with a stronger signal strength than standard Bluetooth.

What installed sound system is best to go for?

The installed sound system that you should choose will depend on multiple factors, such as the size of the room, the setting of the room and how you would like to use it. We offer a wide range of installed sound systems with different specifications, so it is important to know what would work best for your requirements.

For minimal installations in smaller rooms, ceiling speakers would be the better option. Generally, ceiling speakers aren't extremely powerful and are best suited for low to medium-volume background music. These kinds of sets are ideal for rooms like bedrooms and studies where it doesn't need to be overly loud.

In smaller rooms, we would recommend ceiling speakers with a coaxial design, which means that there are two separate drivers in the casing, each of which handles different frequencies. Coaxial speakers are more efficient than speakers with a single driver, as they provide clearer audio; perfect for small rooms.

In larger rooms, we would highly recommend a system including wall-mounted speakers. This is because they will overall have a better output and bass response than in-ceiling designs and a better sound dispersion. They are perfect for use in rooms like dining rooms, and we offer weather-resistant units that are ideal for installation outside in the garden.

A key factor to consider when looking for an installed sound system is the input options available. For example, if you are planning to connect your phone wirelessly for audio, choose a kit that features Bluetooth connectivity. If you want to install a sound system for use with your TV, you will need a system that has a line input to allow this to be possible.

Multi-room audio

We offer several installed speaker kits that include smart technology by the use of WiFi connectivity. When using multiple sets of smart audio systems, you can connect them all to your home network and then stream music from your device through all of them at the same time through a dedicated app.

In a home setting, multi-room audio is great. Say you want to install speakers in multiple bedrooms, or in a living room and kitchen, but the members of your household want different music in each room. This is possible by connecting your phone to the smart app and then choosing the exact speakers that you want your music being played through.

Similarly, you can connect your phone to speakers in multiple rooms at the same time and play music through them in unison. This is particularly good if you are having a house party and there are people in multiple rooms, as the music will be produced no matter where they are.

Within the respective apps that make multi-room audio possible, you can rename each speaker set to each room. For example, if you have one set in your kitchen and another in your living room, you can name the separate sets to each room on the app so you know which set you're connecting to, saving a lot of confusion and making for a simple user experience.

Many of our smart sound systems for multi-room audio also feature a zone with wall-mounted speakers. These are perfect for garden or patio installation as the speakers are weatherproof and have a wide sound dispersion to cater for the open space. Great for house parties, sunbathing and barbecues, our wall mounted sound systems provide high-quality sound when relaxing outdoors at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is An Installed Sound System?

Installed sound systems include everything needed for installation, typically featuring; speakers, the necessary wires, and an amplifier if needed. They are designed to be permanently installed within any room of your home and are perfect for listening to music and home entertainment. A range of installed speaker systems are available to suit different spaces, including ceiling speaker systems, wall-mounted systems, and smart audio systems. Weatherproof options are also available for installation in gardens and patios.

What Is Included In An Installed Sound System?

Our installed sound systems include everything needed to get up and running. However, the exact equipment included varies between systems. Each system will typically include a set of ceiling or wall-mounted speakers, and all the wires needed for connection. However, the number of speakers included varies to suit different sized rooms. Also, if the speaker set has a passive design then a suitable amplifier will be included with our complete systems. This will usually include a variety of useful inputs and features, such as Bluetooth. Alternatively, if the system includes an active speaker then a separate amplifier will not be needed, as the speaker can connect directly to a power supply. If you have an active/passive set the active speaker will also power a passive speaker.

Can You Get A Wireless Installed Sound System?

There are many installed sound systems that feature wireless technology. These systems will include Bluetooth or WiFi connectivity (or both), allowing you to stream audio and control the sound system wirelessly from a smart device. Active speakers often include this technology in-built, while passive speakers may come with an amplifier that has built-in Bluetooth or WiFi. However, please note that all installed sound systems need to be wired to a power supply in order to function. Active speaker systems can be connected directly to a mains power supply, while passive speakers need to be wired to a suitable active speaker or amplifier that will connect to the mains power.

What Types Of Installed Sound Systems Are Available?

There are two main types of installed sound system. Firstly, there are ceiling speaker systems which fit flush against a ceiling for a discreet finish. These are ideal for small rooms such as bedrooms and studies. Alternatively, there are wall-mounted speaker systems, which can be fixed on brackets on a variety of wall surfaces. These are more powerful and suit larger rooms and open spaces, such as dining rooms. The number of speakers included in each system varies to suit different sized rooms. Also, the speakers will feature either an active or passive design. Passive speakers will connect to an external amplifier or suitable active speaker, while active speakers connect directly to a power supply. Many amplifiers and active speakers include a range of useful features, such as WiFi and Bluetooth technology. Lastly, some systems are designed to resist moisture, making them ideal for use in bathrooms, kitchens and gardens.

Can I Connect An Installed Sound System To A Television?

Yes, it is possible to connect an installed sound system to a television, as long as the sound system has the correct inputs. Passive speaker systems will include a suitable amplifier, and this can often be connected to a TV with an AUX or phono-RCA connection. Whereas, active speakers may include a suitable input on the speaker itself. Alternatively, if you have a smart TV with a Bluetooth transmitter and your sound system includes a Bluetooth receiver, your speakers will be able to pick up the television signal through Bluetooth.

Do Installed Sound Systems Need An Amplifier?

The design of the speakers included with the installed sound system will determine whether an amplifier is required. If the included speakers are passive then they will need to connect to an amplifier which will provide them with power. Our complete passive speaker systems include a suitable amplifier that usually features several inputs to play a variety of music. Alternatively, active speaker systems do not need an external amplifier and connect directly to a power supply. Some systems include an active/passive set of speakers, which means that the active and passive speakers connect together, and the active unit powers the passive, meaning that a separate amplifier is not required.

How Do You Install A Sound System?

Our complete sound systems are straightforward to install, however, the exact process will vary between systems. Typically, the first step is to install the speakers in their desired position. Wall-mounted speakers can be fitted to a variety of wall surfaces using the provided mounting brackets. While, ceiling speakers fit flush against the ceiling, meaning that a circular hole will first need to be cut into the ceiling, following the instructions provided. The speaker will then be held in place with clamps, and wires will be discreetly hidden above the ceiling. If the speakers have an active design they can then be connected to a mains power supply with the included power lead. Alternatively, if the speakers have a passive design they will connect to an external amplifier, or to an active speaker if you have purchased an active/passive set. Your sound system will then be ready for use.

Can A Sound System Be Installed Outdoors?

Some sound systems are designed to be suitable for outdoor use and can be permanently installed outdoors. This means that the speakers will have an IP rating, guaranteeing they are resistant to rain, dust and dirt. There are garden sound systems that include speakers which can be concealed in flower beds and shrubbery, producing a discreet look. In addition, weather-proof wall-mounted speakers are available that are perfect for mounting in patio areas. However, please be aware that any external amplifiers will need to be kept indoors, as they are not weatherproof.

Should I Choose A Wall-Mounted Or In-Ceiling Sound System?

Whether a wall-mounted or in-ceiling system is preferable depends largely on your personal preferences and the size of your room. Ceiling speaker systems blend in more to the decor of a room as they have a subtle finish. They are ideal for smaller rooms, as they are less powerful than wall-mounted speakers, and are best suited to medium-volume background music. In comparison, wall-mounted speakers produce a more powerful performance and have wider sound dispersion, suiting higher-volume needs. Therefore, they are perfect for larger, open rooms, such as living rooms. They also provide more mounting options, as they can be attached to any surface.

Can I Have A Multi-Room Installed Sound System?

Yes, some installed sound systems are designed to be used in multiple rooms. These often include a multi-zone amplifier, which enables you to control the audio in each individual room. Alternatively, there are a range of smart audio systems that allow you to create a multi-room system using Wi-Fi connectivity. Once you have installed smart systems in the desired rooms, these can be connected to your WiFi network. You will then be able to use an app to control the speakers, deciding which speakers the music is played through. You can choose to play the same or different audio in each room.
