These home studio monitors have an active/passive design, so one speaker has a built-in amplifier while the other speaker is passive. The active unit connects straight into a mains power source and the passive unit connects to the powered speaker using the integrated speaker cable. Once an audio device is connected, both speakers will play audio in a stereo fashion, perfect for small home studios.
