Discover the children's electronic drum kit range at ElectroMarket, a wonderful starting point for all up and coming aspiring drummers. Many youngsters have already experienced items within our kids electronic drum kits category, especially the Carlsbro ROCK 50 which was designed and built exclusively for EM customers. This kit along with the others are all excellent choices of kids electronic drums, keeping noise to a bare minimum as they stay active and most importantly have fun.

What are kids electronic drums?

Kids electronic drums are excellent pieces of musical equipment that combat boredom and promote hand-eye coordination right from day one. They are a series of durable pads and cymbals attached to a sturdy frame that when struck will play that sound back in headphones or via an amplifier. With the drum sounds coming through headphones this makes practise virtually noise-free in effect, this allows players to rehearse and improve at any time of day.

You’ll notice on each childrens electronic drum kit there is a small box attached to the frame, this is the sound module which is essentially the brain of the kit. The modules have many functions featuring various drum kit sounds and preset styles, recording tracks, a metronome function and this is also where headphones are inserted. The kits also fold down easily, this is for both storage reasons or if you are transporting the kit somewhere else.

Each pad and cymbal on the kids electronic drum kits are re-mappable, meaning if you want to change a tom tom pad to a hi-hat sound that’s entirely possible. The goal with these kits is to spark creativity so creating your own presets is an option too, meaning players can switch between custom kits at a moments notice. Some kits omit accessories, this may seem peculiar but these options are more for tutors or those who likely have access to stools and headphones already.

When and where is best to use a childrens electronic drum kit?

The best thing about kids electronic drum kits is they can be set up and played at any time and anywhere there’s a power source to plug into. The kits are compact and as mentioned fold down to be stored away with simplicity, transportation is also very easy because of this. You can set the kits up comfortably on any flat surface and the pedals are connected to the kit via wire, like many other electric drum sets.

Theoretically, it is possible to play this kit at any time of day or night due to the headphone aspect of playback. Of course, if you’d rather plug into an amplifier to be heard aloud you may want to keep rehearsal day-time only but again the choice is yours. Near silent performance is the main draw to this type of kit as neighbours or sleeping relatives will not be bothered by the noise an acoustic kit would present.

The smaller-scale electric drums we have available are all very affordable and will help expand the imaginations of children all around the country. They could be used en masse at primary schools or for other educational purposes where many children are learning from a music or drum teacher. As they grow, it’s a good idea to upgrade to something like the Carlsbro CSD100 as that kit amongst others is built to normal scale for grown bodies.

How to set up an electric drum set

If you decide to make an order you can begin setting up the kit straight after delivery by following these steps. Firstly, carefully remove all packaging from your drum kit and separate the pieces on the ground around for easy access. Secondly, you should begin with the frame itself as this is what all pads and cymbals will be attached to. Thirdly, attach the sound module and connect each pads wires to the module itself and activate, plug in some headphones and begin practising.

The frame is very easy to set up and tightens via multiple twisting mechanisms, this will keep the kit fortified and in one place. The snare pads are covered in a slightly different material to the rest of the pads, this material better emulates the dynamic feel of a real snare drum skin. The material is highly durable as the snare pad is perhaps the most used pad in the entire kit next to the hi-hat and bass drum pedal.

The pedals are also connected via wire as mentioned, they will react in real-time as normal drum pedals would when compressed. This allows players to use a hi-hat properly, meaning the cymbals sound like they are opening and closing in your ears. However, due to the wire connections, the hi-hats will not actually move anywhere, this is the same for most affordable electric drum sets in today's market.

Can I use these kits for MIDI purposes?

These kits have MIDI outputs, this means it is possible to connect the kit to a computer system, perform and record drum tracks. Tracks must be recorded into a digital audio workstation or DAW for short and you can find free versions of programs like this all over the internet. Once a drum track is recorded, you can select all of the MIDI instances and quantise them to tidy performances up in relation to the songs BPM.

These kits are full of different sounds and styles of performance, research some light production techniques to get the best from your overall drum sound output. Many professional drummers nowadays started out on a kit of this size and specification, through practise alone they have achieved a career doing exactly this. Choosing to start youngsters playing instruments early on in life is an excellent idea, young minds learn very quickly and this is a crucial time to begin learning.
