How does a snow machine work?

The machine produces a very light and fluffy ‘fake snow' foam that is close to the look and feel of real snow. Depending on the machine you order, the output density of snowflakes that the device can produce will differ so be sure to pick a unit that suits your needs. All it takes is a power source and some snow fluid poured into the reservoir and after a short time the fan and nylon strip will begin to spread artificial snow in the direction of which is pointed.

Once you have situated your snow effect where you feel is appropriate, you can use the included remote control to activate. A few of the BeamZ units have a green light system, so when your machine is ready to go it will go green to give you the go-ahead. This remote is wired and connected to the machine itself so you can make use of the function from a short distance away.

The snow effect produced will land about ten metres ahead of your fake snow machine and will fall just like real snow to the floor. Technically these machines are actually specialised foam machines which are designed to defuse a jet of water-based, fast-drying foam. These systems may sound very messy but clean up is very easy as after a while all of the ‘fake snow' will evaporate naturally.

The machines are versatile when it comes to snow fluid as they all tend to be very slight variations on a festive theme. If you’re after an extended snowfall or perhaps you want to cover your back garden with the snow we suggest grabbing a 5 litre snow fluid when you order. We have a variety of bundles that contain snow fluids but you'll find that most types of snow fluid are compatible with our snow systems.

Fake Snow Machines

Fake snow has been created in a few different varieties over the years, with anything from ball-bearing sized polystyrene chippings to powdered wallpaper paste being used for Christmas shop displays and Santa's grotto areas.

Professional ‘artificial snow’ is also used in many retail and commercial situations, which is a finely shredded substance called sodium polyacrylate that has the unique ability to quickly absorb up to 800 times its own weight in water. We actually have small tubes of it available under its ‘Magic Snow’ trade name. Surprisingly realistic looking if distributed correctly, but the nature of how it reacts with liquid also means it's a significant choking hazard around young children.

Artificial Snow Foam Machines

Our foam-based snow machines use a water-based fluid which contains a small amount of the surfactant Sodium Laureth Sulphate which is found in all sorts of hygiene products from body wash, shampoo and toothpaste because of its natural foaming effect. This is a harmless and fully bio-degradable formula which is safe to use around children and animals. It has no odour and leaves no residue on surfaces making it ideal for use indoors and out.

Though there are technical differences between fake snow and artificial snow, most people will either search for a snow machine or a fake snow machine and as such, the names have become fairly interchangeable in the effects industry to mean a liquid-based machine as these are the most common and cost-effective

Our popular snow machines work by pumping a controlled amount of air into the snow fluid mixture which creates a fine foam, which is then pushed out through a fabric nozzle under fan power. It's a close approximation of real snow, with a glistening effect under lighting and soft to the touch.

Snow Machines for Home Parties

For home users and house parties we have smaller output snow machines such as the BeamZ SNOW600 and SNOW900 which are designed for a bit of fun, giving good coverage up to about 3 metres. They offer fantastic value and will be a great bit of fun for kids while being completely safe to use.

This beast comes with a 10m long dispersion hose with a foam cannon on the end, allowing for large areas to be quickly covered. A huge 20-litre fluid tank, 400ml per minute flow rate and full DMX control over air volume and fluid feed speed provide total adjustment to suit indoor and outdoor use.
