Our BeamZ moving head beam lights feature a high power LED with RGB colour mixing. You can use them in either standalone mode or with the use of DMX. The standalone feature is best for smaller events in pubs and small clubs for example, as the light will follow an impressive pre-programmed auto pattern without the need for any accompanying equipment.

For larger events, you will most likely want the light to follow your own movement patterns, in which case the DMX feature would be better suited here. By using DMX, you can choose the exact movement pattern that the light will follow, as well as choosing the colours it sets to at any given time.

Beam moving heads are best used with a smoke or haze machine. When a room is filled with smoke, you will see the actual beam of light rather than just the effect it has on surfaces. Haze machines work best for this as they produce a thinner smoke effect that hangs in the air to the point that you barely notice it, all while making your beam moving head light look twice as good.

Our range of beam moving head lights can also be used effectively with a mirror ball for disco use. The focused beam of light can cover the whole surface of a mirror ball if placed at the correct distance, and the interchangeable colours will produce a strong disco effect if used properly.

What Are Moving Beam Lights Good For?

Moving head beam lights are ideal to give focus to one part of a stage show. In a theatre setting, they are mostly used when one character is performing a monologue or solo performance, as the focused beam of light will only light the one character up while the rest of the stage around them stays blacked out.

Beam moving head lights are also great for DJs when used with other lighting and effects units. They provide a tight and focused beam of light that is great when used with a disco ball, as the beam covers the whole surface of the ball to produce a full disco effect.

Moving beam lights are best used with a smoke or haze machine, as the light beam itself is not visible without smoke or mist in the air. If you are only using a moving beam light to focus on one surface in a performance then smoke isn't necessary, however, if you are after the effect of the beam itself being visible in the air then it would be a smart choice to use a smoke machine as well.

Although beam moving head lights are mostly used to produce a tight beam of solid light, many of our moving beam lights also feature gobos. A gobo is a slim piece of plastic or metal material that covers the lens so that the light being produced has a pattern or shape on surfaces. These are great for DJs and disco use, and some of them have replaceable gobos, giving you the ability to use your own custom gobo patterns with the light.

What Should I Look For In A Moving Beam Light?

There are a few things to consider when purchasing a moving head beam unit. One of these is the brightness of the LEDs built into the light. The higher the wattage of the LEDs, the brighter the unit will be. This is important to consider when purchasing a light for certain locations, as you will need to make sure that it will perform effectively at the distance you are planning on having it from the desired lit area.

Another important factor to consider when looking for a moving beam light is the colours that each one is capable of producing. Some of the more basic units will have standard RGB LEDs capable of around 8 colours, while the more professional range will feature RGBW/AUV colour mixing, giving you many more achievable colours to take advantage of.

Of course, the size of each light is an important factor to consider. We offer extremely compact units that are ideal for small pub gigs or even house parties, and we also offer large units that wouldn't be suitable for smaller-scale events. Once you have an understanding of what you need to achieve and the available space you have, making the choice will be much easier.

The effects that each light is capable of producing is another important aspect. Some of our beam moving head lights will only be capable of solid static colour, while others feature interchangeable gobos for patterns and shapes in the light effect. As well as this, some of our moving beam lights such as the Tiger 7R in the BeamZ Professional range has a hybrid design, allowing you to use it in beam or spot mode to change the width of the colour spread.
