Smart Audio Systems

Many of our smart sound systems have separate smart amplifiers. These are standalone units that you can connect the passive speakers to using speaker cable. The amplifier is WiFi-enabled, so with the use of an app on your smart device, you can stream music from your favourite streaming services wirelessly.

Also included in our smart audio systems are active/passive ceiling speaker and wall-mounted speaker sets. These are similar to the amplifiers, but you can plug the active unit from each set directly into mains power and then connect the corresponding passive speaker to it with included speaker cable. They are WiFi-enabled, so you can set up each set and then connect to all of them at the same time through the smart app on your phone.

With smart sound systems like these, you can achieve multi-room audio by connecting to your home WiFi network. By using the respective app on your phone, you can select each set of speakers that are installed in different rooms, and rename them to each room on the app. This is extremely user-friendly and means you can distinguish each room differently for ease of use.

Some of the speakers included in our kits are moisture-resistant, so you can install them in rooms such as bathrooms, kitchens or balconies. Their moisture-resistant design means that they cannot be completely submerged in water, but can withstand splashing, rain, and general moisture in the room, which makes them perfect for bathroom or garden installations.

How smart home sound systems work

Smart home sound systems allow you to enjoy high-quality audio throughout your home with seamless control from a central point. These systems typically consist of wireless speakers or amplifiers that are connected to your home network, allowing you to stream music, podcasts, or other audio content from various sources such as online streaming services, local music libraries, or connected devices.

This can typically be done through a companion app, which allows you to connect and configure the speakers or amplifiers to your network. Once connected, you can use the app to control the audio content, volume, and other settings for each speaker or group of speakers in different rooms of your home.

Smart home sound systems often offer advanced features such as multi-room audio synchronisation, where you can play the same audio content in multiple rooms simultaneously, or create different audio zones with individual volume controls for each room. Some systems also offer voice control capabilities, allowing you to control the audio content and settings using voice commands through compatible smart speakers or virtual assistants. Additionally, many multi room audio systems are compatible with popular streaming services, giving you access to a wide range of audio content directly from your smart devices or the sound system app.

Different types of speakers in smart systems

There are a variety of speakers included in these smart speaker systems, ranging from in-ceiling units to on-wall weatherproof speakers. Each style of speaker is designed to be used effectively in different areas of your home to ensure the best possible sound quality while fitting in seamlessly with any room or area.

In-ceiling speakers are perhaps the most common form of speaker in installed systems, as they are versatile, provide high-quality sound, and are discreet when mounted in the ceiling. Ceiling speakers are great for casual listening in any room, such as kitchens, living rooms, and home offices. Their installed design helps them blend in nicely with a variety of interior home designs, and the coaxial 2-way driver layout that many ceiling speakers have ensures a wide frequency range.

On-wall speakers are another common type of speaker used in smart audio systems. They come with adjustable mounting brackets that enable installation on various wall surfaces. Compared to ceiling speakers, wall speakers are capable of louder volume levels, as well as wider frequency ranges. This makes them ideal for larger spaces such as dining rooms, as well as outdoor patio and garden areas.

Weather and moisture-resistant speakers are commonly found in these smart sound systems, which allows for installation in humid areas like bathrooms or outdoor patios. Multi room audio systems

Smart audio setups can be expanded to create multi room audio systems, making them easily adaptable to varying sound requirements in a home environment. Once the amplifier, speaker, or streamer (depending on the type of system) has been connected to your home WiFi network, you can connect multiple other speakers, amplifiers, or streamers to the network for it to be recognised as one system.

Each amplifier in a multi room system is recognised as one ‘zone’ on the corresponding smart app, where you can then rename each amplifier to know exactly which room it is in. The result is a system that can be controlled from a smart device on the same network from any room in the house, making these systems much more versatile and convenient than wireless Bluetooth systems.

That being said, many of the multi room systems in this category also provide Bluetooth functionality, which allows for simpler single-room streaming. An advantage that Bluetooth has over WiFi is that you can use any app or website of your choice on your device, leaving you completely unrestricted in terms of what audio you want to listen to.
