The electric guitar is one of the most frequently used instruments in modern music and more of the public now have one in their homes than ever before. A wooden body with steel strings and single-coil pickups is engaged via guitar cable and into a guitar amplifier, letting you play at volume. The electric guitar starter kits on this page are great for newcomers to introduce themselves to the guitar at their own pace.

Buy Beginner Electric Guitars

The beginner electric guitars we stock are designed to be an accessible first base for all up and coming guitar players. Sometimes aspiring musicians will spend a huge amount of money on a high-end guitar only to realise a month down the line that they don’t have the patience to learn. Practising and studying the guitar takes dedication and a lot of time.

Right here is where the electric guitar starter kits come in, some containing a small guitar amp and a case for the electric guitar itself amongst other helpful tools and hardware. This extra hardware consists of a guitar cable, a whammy bar, a clip-on tuner, a few plectrums and a strap for standing play. All of these beginner electric guitars are built toward learning at home and other practise usages as opposed to stage shows etc.

The electric guitars we stock come in red, black, white and sunburst colours though occasionally we will have blue and orange in stock too. Connect the cable to both your guitar and the supplied amplifier, turn up the volume and play along to your favourite tracks. When you feel ready, research some guitar techniques such as the hammer-on or pull-off to improve your playing further.

The guitar is greatly accessible these days, there are countless free tutorial videos online that will teach you how to play the main 7 major chords. Major chords sound ‘happy’ and should be learned first, soon enough you’ll be able to chain them all together and play along with your favourite songs. These chords have their own minor or ‘sad’ version too, Em or E minor removes only one note from the chord shaping and the tone changes accordingly.

If you make an order and it comes with a guitar tuner just attach it to the headstock of your guitar where the strings are tuned up and down. Once clipped on, start twisting the tuning pegs to pitch from the bottom string upwards, the bottom upwards being the bottom string that is nearest to your chest to the top string closest to your legs. The tuner backlight will change to green when the concert pitch for each note has been reached, standard guitar tunings are as follows E - A - D - G - B - E.

These guitars are built as an introduction to stringed instruments and serve to keep you focused on the basics until you learn enough to confidently upgrade your equipment. To repeat, learning to play any musical instrument takes patience and a great deal of time, if you have a tight schedule try to fit in a couple of hours of practise in each week. If that is something that is not possible for you then it’s just as okay to take your time, but naturally expect results a little later down the line.

Electric guitar starter kits

Beginner electric guitars can be played unplugged at all hours of the day without causing disturbances because without power going to the guitar itself the instrument's sound will be faint. Plugging the guitars into guitar amps is another story as the electricity activates the guitars pickups so what you play is turned into a loud audio signal from the speakers. Electro-acoustic guitars are quite similar but you get audible sound while unplugged or plugged in respectfully.

There are thousands of musical styles and cultures to discover, try to determine what style of music you enjoy listening to and go from there. For instance, some players may enjoy the effect soaked power ballad guitar solos from the 80s and some may prefer the crunchy, rolling stones rock and roll style. There is new music every single day and it’s easy to get lost but by talking with others you can decide on a stylistic direction to follow while learning.

You may want to hire a pro tutor, but day by day the music tutoring industry is moving to online tutorials via video calls. The effectiveness of having somebody teach you comes from that one to one, moment to moment assistance in technique and learning how your instrument should be sounding while you play it. Meaning it would be equally effective to find some trustworthy and more importantly free guitar lesson videos online instead, save your money.

How to maintain your guitar?

Your guitar should have the strings changed every few months to stop them from rusting and losing sound quality, this is a great time to give your guitar some TLC. Once you have removed the strings, wipe the neck and fretboard over with a slightly damp cloth. The same goes for the headstock and the body of the guitar itself, every time you attach new strings you should double-check the intonation.

Intonation is important and means that playing an open string gives you the same note as when you play an octave note on the 12th fret. The strings will sit upon the bridge at the opposite end to the headstock, just below where your strumming hand is, firstly connect your tuner to your guitar. The screws on the bridge can be tightened or loosened by screwdriver until the same note is achieved while playing an open string and the 12th fret octave.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Is The Best Electric Guitar For Beginners?

Most beginner electric guitars will be the same in terms of quality and sound, so the best option for you will depend on your personal preferences when it comes to colour and functionality. For example, if you prefer to play with a distorted sound, one of our beginner guitars with an amplifier would work the best for your intended use.

Can I Teach Myself Electric Guitar?

Yes, teaching yourself to learn the electric guitar is definitely doable providing you follow some advice that you can find online. It is key to know that everyone is poor at playing when they first start, so it is a matter of persistence to get to a skill level that you are happy with.

How Long Will It Take To Learn The Electric Guitar?

Getting to a point where you can play the basics; chords and some easy scales can take anywhere between a few weeks to a couple of months. After this point, it is a matter of fine-tuning your playing ability and techniques at your own gradual pace. You will find that guitarists who have been playing for several years still have a lot to learn, so it is a constant and exciting journey.

Is It OK To Learn Electric Guitar First?

Yes! Whether you choose to learn electric or acoustic guitar first is completely dependent on the type of music you wish to play, so bear that in mind. An electric guitar is slightly easier to play at first purely due to the size being more accessible, but this will differ between people.

Am I Too Old To Learn To Play The Guitar?

No! No matter what age you are, you can learn guitar easily should you put in the dedication and hours that go with learning it. It is true that younger people will be able to learn quicker, but this has no merit on your ability to learn to play as an older person.
