Laser Lights will always impress and will always pull a crowd. They have an almost magical effect on people and are perfect for bands, bars and clubs, DJ’s and stage shows.

Lasers have been used professionally for music and show productions since the 70s, with bands such as Pink Floyd and ELO using them to great effect in live shows to create custom objects and patterns that covered large areas. These shows became more elaborate and the laser units became more and more powerful as the years progressed, ending up at the point it is today.

Laser light is extremely useful in entertainment as the nature of how the units work allows a focussed narrow beam to be produced, unlike any other lighting source. This allows the use of optical scanning to produce images or patterns which can be visualised on floors, wall and ceilings, or mid-air through the use of smoke or fog effects.

TTL Lasers

For those looking for a no-nonsense addition to their current lighting setup, a TTL laser could be the perfect piece for the job. TTL (Transistor Transistor Logic) lasers offer users a constant beam of light that can't be adjusted or altered for the optimum result. These lasers can only be switched on and off, so are commonly used for fixtures that remain the same throughout the entirety of the day or night. Despite being straightforward to use, this laser light can be hooked up to sound-to-light systems and kept on a timer. It's also available in various colours to suit the occasion, offering intense, clear beams of high quality. TTL lasers can be used to project graphics, as part of fixed installations, or for multimedia projects. They are capable of creating crisp, precise images in vibrant colours without becoming blurred or distorted over time.

DMX Lasers

DMX Lasers are staples of any light show or events project, offering plenty of choice when it comes to colours and brightnesses. Very powerful and often portable, they make for versatile additions to both hobbyist and professional kits. Guaranteeing users a quality, vibrant beam every time, they will really bring more life to your parties. Customise individual beams to be dimmer or pulse and flicker at different rates. DMX Laser Lights can even be used in combination with music and are compatible with a range of timers and software. Alternatively, manually control and change your DMX Lasers during a light show for a personalised feel. There's no need to settle for single colour laser lights either, as DMX Lasers come in a wide range of colour outputs.

Analog Lasers

Ideal for displaying patterns and shapes in a unique way, Analog Lasers can generate clean lines and striking visual effects that are certain to impress. Analog Lasers have the ability to dim the output power of the laser beam, which means it's possible to display a near-infinite range of colour shades with systems that have more than one laser source. Depending on the technology, brightness can also be controlled to a great extent, enabling mixed colours to be created specifically. We have analog lasers and DJ laser lights that are perfect for a number of applications, including graphics projections, fixed installations and multimedia projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Laser Lights Safe?

Modern laser lights are completely safe, although as with any bright light, it is not advised to look directly into a laser. Around 30 years ago, laser lights saw legislation come in in countries across the world to make their usage near or above a live audience illegal for safety reasons as they had got out of hand, but 30 years forward and advances in the technology, manufacturing and safety awareness have allowed these wonderful laser devices to be on sale to the general public, requiring no special licenses or training.

How Does A Laser Work?

The term LASER is an acronym meaning Light Amplification (by) Stimulated Emission (of) Radiation. While a standard lightbulb radiates light in all directions, Lasers focus this light into one single monochromatic point using a small degree of photon radiation. This is then manipulated into a perfectly straight laser beam that can be used in a multitude of different ways.

Lasers Work With DMX?

You can connect all manner of lights together with DMX technology, this gives you the final say on things like what colour they are, where they move and how intensively they shine, it's very likely you've been to a gig that has a really great laser show and there's probably a pro-DMX wizard behind that entire sequence whose job it is specifically to program this kind of thing.

What lasers do clubs use?

Clubs typically use high-powered laser systems designed for creating vivid, animated light displays that enhance the atmosphere of the venue. These lasers are usually capable of producing a range of colours and effects, from patterns to sweeping beams that sync with the music, contributing to the overall experience of club-goers.

Such systems are engineered for safety and ensure a visually stunning experience. Popular choices include TTL and analog lasers, both of which produce impressive laser effects. Many lasers are also DMX controllable, allowing the results to be customised with a DMX controller.

How powerful should a laser light be?

The power of a laser light should align with the venue size and the type of effect desired. Small clubs and discos typically require lasers ranging from 500 to 1500 milliwatts (mW) to achieve bright and visible effects.

Larger events such as sizeable nightclubs, discos and mid-sized events would benefit from lasers with a power of 1,500mW-5,000mW to ensure the beams are vivid and reach further distances. Whereas, large outdoor spaces, such as festivals may use anything over 5000mW.

Difference Between A Cheap Laser Unit To A Club Or Installation Laser System?

There are several factors that differentiate the professional laser systems to their cheaper units, with the most obvious being the output power rating. A professional laser light will start at around the 500MW mark, which is 5 or 6 times more powerful than the typical small home or DJ unit. More power = enhanced beam clarity and definition.

Larger more professional-oriented systems will often feature much higher grade diodes and servos, allowing much faster response times and much higher tolerances for line definition and shape creation, including the display of multicoloured moving images or graphics which can be programmed onboard or transferred from PC editing software using industry-standard ILDA transfer ports.

At ElectroMarket, we have laser lights for both applications - whether you require a laser light for DJing or home use, or for a professional installation/setup.

Should I Buy A Party Or Professional Laser?

You should purchase what you need where you can help it, clearly, you wouldn't bring a little home laser to an arena show and expect it to wow thousands. While your laser may look fab at the house party or mobile disco venue it would get rather lost in the stage light-heavy professional event world. By all means, buy what you want to buy, but just double check it's appropriate for your end usage. Never skimp out on putting on a professional show.

What can a laser light do?

In the realm of entertainment, laser lights add a vibrant and dynamic element to performances and events. They create captivating visual effects that can synchronise with music, enhancing the atmosphere of concerts, theatre productions, and nightclubs. Lasers can project patterns, animations, and even text, transforming spaces.

They are also integral to light shows, often seen during festivals and public celebrations, where they paint the night sky with spectacular displays of colour and design. Combine laser lights with a smoke or haze machine and the light beams will be visible in the air, adding to the effect.

Do you need a smoke machine to see lasers?

Using a smoke machine significantly enhances the visibility and impact of lasers. The smoke particles scatter the laser light, making the beams themselves visible as they travel through the air. This creates a visually captivating experience, especially in environments such as clubs or entertainment venues where atmospheric effects are desired.

However, in settings where intricate patterns or projections are the focus, a smoke machine may not be as necessary. The decision to use one depends on the desired visual effect and the context of the laser's application.

Which is better LED or laser lights?

The choice between LED and laser lighting technology depends on the specific needs of the event or venue. LEDs are renowned for their energy efficiency, long lifespan, and vibrant colour range, making them ideal for background lighting. Lasers, on the other hand, excel in creating sharp, focused beams and intricate patterns, enhancing live performances and light shows with their precision and brightness.

Ultimately, the better option depends on the visual effect you wish to achieve. LEDs for uplighting and wash and spot effects, and lasers for detailed, high-impact visuals. Both often complement each other in large lighting setups.
